The flooding was massive in some areas along Alberto's path. In Raleigh, NC where we're based, we had 4 to almost 8 inches of rain, while just a few miles away, they only got an inch!
Visit our Alberto gallery to see some of the images captured live from SET1 & SET2 and other photos shot with our regular digital cameras. Video will be up soon.

The flooding continues! Over 5 inches of rain fell in Central North Carolina and the flooding has been really bad in some areas. We'll have photos and video posted later this evening.
Remember - Don't drive through water covering roads. We've seen so many cars stranded, flooded and destroyed today.

Flash Flood Watches & Warnings and Flood Watches & Warnings are up all along Albeto's path. Remember the main rule, TURN AROUND, DON'T DROWN! If you come upon water covering the road, turn around and go another way. Vehiclular drowning is responsible for over half of flooding related deaths in America!

Alberto is losing intensity, but as the storm moves through Georgia and the Carolinas, flooding, wind and tornadoes are all threats. Watches are up all along the storm's path and warnings have already gone up for tornadoes and could continue along Alberto's path through tonight and tomorrow.

As landfall occurs, the problem of 7-9 foot surge can't be overlooked. Wind and flooding will be problems along the storm's path, as will the threat of tornadoes continuing as the storm moves inland.
As always, you'll see the latest fron the NHC at the Get SET Hurricane Center. The season is just beginning and Alberto's early arrival (as Arlene did last year) is a reminder to get prepared NOW for what could be coming later.

Alberto is still just under hurricane strength as of 11pm, but that will only make a difference in the records, not in the impact at landfall. Whether the storm reaches hurricane intensity or not, there will still be dangers from surge, flooding, wind and tornadoes.

Again, whether it's a 70mph Tropical Storm or a 74mph Cat 1, the impacts will be pretty much the same unless it's intensifying AS it comes ashore. Remember, TORNADOES are a big threat along the path of these tropical systems too - and tropical tornadoes can spin up quickly, kill people & destroy property, then dissipate quickly. Sometimes they're only on radar for several minutes, way too short to get a warning out.
Ditto everything below! If you're told to evacuate, do it. If you don't have to leave, but WILL be impacted, remember how badly Katrina affected Florida as "just a Cat 1" and get your supplies. You still have time to prepare and want to have water, non-perishable food and batteries, etc.

The warning is from Longboat Key to the Ochlockonee River on the Gulf Coast. Alberto is now expected to become a hurricane later today. Things can change quickly and even if Alberto doesn't make it to hurricane strength, there's no difference between the 73mph winds (and rain) of a strong tropical storm and the 74mph winds of a Cat 1 hurricane.
If YOU are in the path of this storm DON'T take it lightly. Prepare now, you still have time to get the supplies you'll need to be ready and if local authorities tell you to leave, DO IT. Don't be a statistic. You and your family are always more important than property and 'things'!
